10.15.07 Happy One Year Anniversary OLV!!

We can’t believe a year has gone by already! To commemorate our first year we thought we would take a look back at our favorite stories, including our first published piece, perfect for this time of year:

1. OLV’s Scary Excursion is a road trip through the Northeast, stopping at locations from five of our favorite scary movies. If you are interested in seeing more fall foliage, here are some of this year’s best bargains from Budget Travel.

2. OLV On The Set of Indiana Jones 4 was published in June when we were lucky enough to catch a day of Indiana Jones filming in New Haven, CT.

3. Set-Jetting Takes Off was our first critical essay and helps sum up what OLV is all about.

Now that we have looked back, here is a quick look ahead. First, we have decided to open comments on our daily news posts. We get tips and questions from readers and think you may be help each other as well as we could, probably better! We are also revamping our forum so any of you who have stories and pictures from an on location vacation or on set sighting can share it with the world.

We have had requests for weekend updates and newsletters so we thought we could kill two birds with one stone! We are going to try to put together a weekly wrap up/weekend update newsletter that will go out on Saturdays. We expect the first one to go out 10/27. If you are interested, send us an email with “newsletter request” in the subject and we will add you to our mailing list!

We are also going to be posting more pictures from our on location vacations on our my space page @ www.myspace.com/onlocationvacations so check back soon.

Slowly but surely over the next few weeks we will be pulling all of this together and hopefully we will be able to provide a community atmosphere where all of our readers can share their tips and trips while we continue to provide the best on location filming information on the web!

Finally, we have learned over the past year that so many of you love to watch movies being made hoping for a glimpse of your favorite celeb, we wonder if you would pay for it, maybe if you knew you would see your favorite star? If we encouraged productions to open their doors to fans, if they auctioned off a chance to be on set, would you be willing to make a donation to a local charity for it? If you were taking an on location vacation would you be willing to volunteer in a community, helping to build a home or donate food to a local food bank? We are brainstorming a charity, On Location Donations, that would encourage filmmakers and tourists alike to contribute something, no matter how small, to the communities they visit. We would like to petition production companies to do more in the communities they touch and we would love to get all of you involved. We will have more information in the next few months so please let us know if you have any feedback. Here is some inspiration:

The Born Free foundation was developed while the movie Born Free was filming in Kenya in the mid 60’s. The foundation still does positive work in the region.

While filming Blood Diamond in Africa, the cast and crew donated time and materials to local hospitals and orphanages. To continue the support, The Blood Diamond Charity Fund was created.

Here is a location in the UK that is able to fund its conservation work exclusively from filming profits.

How could you give back on a vacation? Here are some ideas from a travel agency in the UK.

Just one more thing, if you are interested in an OLV tee- check out our store!
