Casting Call for HBO’s “Luck” being held at the Santa Anita Racetrack

HBO’s Luck is seeking all types of race track characters and employees to appear as background actors in the series which is gearing up to start shooting its second season.

Luck stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina, and John Ortiz. The first season is currently airing on HBO Sunday nights at 9 p.m.

An open casting call will be held at the Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia CA, where the show is filmed,  on Sunday, Feb. 12. Casting for racetrack employees will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Top ’O the Stretch and the open casting will take place in Santa Anita’s paddock area, just north of the Seabiscuit Walking Ring from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

All participants are asked to bring a picture of themselves.

“This is a good opportunity for many of our employees and fans to be a part of a major league television production and to pick up some extra income,” said Pete Siberell, Santa Anita’s Director of Special Projects. “We had approximately 500 extras involved with Season One, and I would expect there would be a similar opportunity with Season Two.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — HBO is defending its treatment of horses used in the racetrack drama “Luck” after two of the animals died during production.

The horses were injured and euthanized during filming of the series, which stars Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte and has been renewed for a second season. The deaths, which occurred a year apart in 2010 and 2011, have drawn criticism from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
