It’s no surprise there haven’t been many projects filming in Michigan recently after the state reduced their film incentives last year, but there are a couple of films on the horizon, and one of them is currently looking for crew members.
According to the Michigan Film Office, Beside Still Waters, from Writer/Director Chris Lowell, will be shooting in the state from June 4th – June 24th and they are currently accepting resumes for all crew positions. If interested, you can email your resume as an attachment and in the subject line put the position you are applying for like this: “Crew Position: _________” Email resumes to: email@example.com.
The movie – which focuses on a man who invites his estranged high school friends to his summer home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for one last weekend in the home where they spent their childhood summers – is expected to primarily be shot in Traverse City & Detroit.
A new horror film from New Line Cinemas, entitled Category Six, may also be filmed in Detroit this summer. According to industry news reports, the movie, from director Steven Quale, will focus on found-footage from highschoolers’ phones as they tried to survive a Category 6 hurricane.
And, we’ve even heard rumors that the RoboCop reboot will be filmed in Detroit, but it might be a little to early to confirm a location- anywhere- just yet.
On the downside, a big-budget movie focused on a 1950’s murder mystery at the Ford Edsel plant in Michigan, called Motor City, is eying Berlin, Germany as its filming location, NOT Detroit where much of it is set. Amber Heard, Gary Oldman, and Gerard Butler are expected to begin filming Motor City in September.
