Late last year there were rumors that David O. Russell’s Joy, which chronicles the unlikely rise of Miracle Mop inventor and HSN regular Joy Mangano, was about to fall apart but, based on news of a recent casting call for the film, it looks like things are still on track.
According to our sources in the Boston area, where they movie is set to be filmed, a casting call was sent out last week for Joy, with a filming date of Feb. 9.
This will be the first movie for Jennifer Lawrence, who will star as Mangano, since wrapping Mockingjay — Part 2 in April. Joy will also feature Jen’s American Hustle/Silver Linings Playbook co-stars Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, who is committed to The Elephant Man on Broadway through Feb. 21. De Niro is working on another project, Dirty Grandpa, through mid-February.
Joy marks the third movie Russell has made in Boston in recent years. American Hustle and The Fighter were both filmed in Massachusetts, too.
